Intersection upgrades
Ensuring that intersections are safer for growing communities
Providing better access for pedestrians and cyclists
Many intersections in New South Wales were designed to meet the needs of the community at the time they were built. Population density growth and changes to infrastructure over time however have meant that some intersections no longer function effectively.
Successful intersection upgrades delivered by Sydney Civil will rectify the issues affecting usability from reducing bottlenecks to improving traffic flow, resulting in an overall safer experience for road users. Upgrades include the addition of extra turning lanes, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, the realignment of dedicated bicycle lanes, and expansion of lanes to create more capacity.
We continue to work closely with clients and their stakeholder communities as they identify intersections that are in need of upgrades.
We can implement and manage every aspect of intersection upgrades, including:
Paving
Footway Renewal
Drainage
Road Construction
Kerbs & Gutters
Road Resurfacing
Street Lighting
Traffic Signals
Frequently asked questions
Some of the main reasons a Council will call for an intersection to be upgraded is when safety issues have been identified (or when traffic volume projections indicate that issues will arise) and when congestion is a known problem. The occurrence of vehicle crashes – particularly those that result in casualties and hospitalisation – are of huge cause for concern. Sydney Civil is committed to delivering safe, sustainable, functional, and site-responsive upgrades.
As well as improvements to the intersection itself – from the addition of traffic lights and signals to increasing the number of lanes and their capacity – Sydney Civil seeks to ensure that the upgrade fits within the surrounding streetscape. A successful plan will also look to increase the presence of vegetation, add/improve pathways and cycleways, allow for wildlife protection, and improve road useability.
Unfortunately, the scale of most intersection upgrades means that some traffic disruption is unavoidable. Sydney Civil takes every effort to ensure that roadways remain open to traffic throughout the upgrade period, however, delays are anticipated (as works often require one-way traffic operation and lane closures for the safety of onsite workers). We manage works so that disruption to private properties is minimised, that emergency access can be maintained and that normal working hours can be observed (where possible).
