An integral part of the urban environment, cycling is a growing sustainable transport option
Creating safe spaces for cyclists of all ages
Many of the roads in Australia have been designed to cater for vehicles only. Fortunately, several Councils in Greater Sydney have recognised the need to improve access for cyclists (as well as improving safety) through dedicated cycleway construction.
Sydney Civil has been involved in the design and construction of many cycleway projects, from recreational paths in parkland areas to lanes in the inner city that help ease congestion on busy roadways. We continue to work closely with a number of Councils as they extend their cycleway network throughout the city and beyond.
We work in partnership with our clients and affected communities in order to fully understand project objectives, explore possible concepts and deliver creative solutions.
We can implement and manage every aspect of cycleway construction, including:

Frequently Asked Questions
Also known as bike paths, this refers to infrastructure that cyclists are permitted to use. It includes dedicated pathways and tracks, as well as
bike lanes on roadways. Other than physical pathways, cycleway developments also include various amenities (bike racks, shelters, service
centres, and specialised traffic signage).
A well-designed cycleway development should integrate into the existing street environment, as well as efficiently respond to the various urban conditions along the route. The route should also be easily accessible for cyclists at various points. Tree planting and stormwater quality improvements can also ensure that the pathway is as ‘green’ as possible.
At the heart of it, Sydney Civil’s cycleway projects are planned to provide improved safety, comfort and amenity for cyclists, as well as drivers (by removing cyclists from the flow of vehicular traffic). Choosing to work with a company that has experience in creating cycleways ensures that the project leverages different disciplines to get the best outcome for the client.
